Cooking

Since my teenage, I have never helped my mother in the kitchen. She used to complain saying, am irresponsible when it comes to household chores. I do help my mother by cutting vegetables just for her sake. But you can find neatness and say 80% of perfection in my work though I don't know to cook (before marriage), and I get appreciated by her.

My husband is a verrryy good eater. He doesn't dislike or waste food. He was in U.S. for more than a year and a half before we got married. So all he had to do is prepare 'something' for his croaking stomach in the name of cooking :P. Soon after we got engaged, he kept asking if I know to cook or at least learn to cook somehow. I didn't take his word seriously. But I knew that, 'the day' is not so far.

And came the day where I had to prepare lunch for us from the scratch. I was like, 'what am I gonna do now :('. Luckily,  I had a notebook in which I noted down some of the basic recipes from my mother. Few hours later, in my dining table the lunch was ready to eat.

My husband always comes home with hunger which made me more nervous. Once he came in, he said 'ada! nalla manakardhey' (Wow! Smells so good). I didn't know how to take his words. I was thinking, if he was giving sweet talks like everyone does when they are newly weds :P.

Okay! Its lunch time!

These are not the dishes that I cooked on the first day. Just a pic from my cooking album :)

I was eager to know his genuine opinion about my cooking. He said that I have a good 'kai manam'. I was a bit relaxed and satisfied that he liked my cooking. My honest opinion about my cooking on the very first day was, both the sambar and rasam looked alike :P. But the taste and aroma was good.

I said to myself that I need to improve a lot. And its been a year since we got married. Of course, I have improved a lot because I love to cook and I put all my life to make it perfect. My hubby likes my cooking but always adds 'enga amma samaikara maadhiri varadhu'. Thats true. She is cooking since she was a small girl. I should never be compared with her's ;).

Looking forward to learn her way of cooking :). Btw, I will be posting some of my recipes in the upcoming blogs. So keep reading!

Eat healthy food and take good care.

Nam Oora Pola Varuma?

I have never thought of going abroad since I was in college. When my parents started the groom hunt for me, I had few conditions like I will never leave India, I don't want a U.S. maapillai, preferably he should be from Chennai so that I can visit my parents once in a while, etcetera.

Few years ago, when my parents asked the astrologer about my future, he had said that I will go overseas and will never come back and will dislike India. I was like 'what $&!#'. In a way, I don't completely believe in horoscopes.

Meanwhile, we got a call from a groom's, saying they were interested in me. I visited the groom's matrimony profile and it said living in U.S. blah blah blah. But I kinda liked the guy. Luckily he had come to Chennai to attend his brother's wedding and was about to leave India in a couple of days.

Btw, both families decided to meet each other, have an informal talk and decide later about proceeding, depending upon our (myself and the groom's) decision. I was pretty nervous when I first met the guy. Mixed emotions. I liked him even more when we got to know each other. He was humorous, honest, smart and handsome. After giving it a few thoughts, it was a Yes from both of us. Of course, I did blush! :D.

Finally, we got married in 2010 and now I'm living in U.S. I know, it was my decision to come here. But I cannot stomach what the astrologer said. To me, it was totally ridiculous. When I came here, I liked the country for its cleanliness, infrastructure, environment, climate etc.. But still I miss my country in some way or the other. I miss my family, functions, festivals, friends and whatnot.

Sorgamae endralum adhu nam oora pola varuma? :)

Namaste!

My first blog

I don't know where to start with.

Okay!

Today I was reading singer Chinmayi's, who happens to be one of my most favorite singers, blog. It was pretty interesting and was totally into it. Reading has never been my cup of tea. For some reason I hate reading. I know its weird. I tend to read only if the topic or subject interests me. I love music and so I found the above said singer's blog interesting.

I always wanted to create a blog for myself but had no idea about it. Finally am here :). Let me see how this goes.
